Matthew hileman, panelist
Matthew D. Hileman is an award-winning art administrator with a career spanning nearly 30 years. He is the former Director of Marketing and Exhibitions of the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, Las Vegas, where he worked with renowned museum collections from around the world, including the Moscow Kremlin Armoury Museums, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Andy Warhol Museum, and the private collections of writer and actor Steve Martin, and the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. He is also the author of the “The Impressionist Landscape: from Corot to van Gogh,” published in 2005.
In the early 2000s, Matthew served as corporate curator to MGM MIRAGE where he oversaw a collection of over 1,500 works of art spanning 1,000 years of history. Included in the collection were rare examples of ancient Chinese tomb wares, masterpieces of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, and works by some of the world’s most recognized contemporary artists including Dale Chihuly, Robert Rauschenberg, and Roy Lichtenstein. In 2003, he collaborated with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History to oversee the transfer of the private collection of Hollywood Golden Age legend George Sydney to the Smithsonian’s permanent collection. In 2017, Matthew joined the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to become the inaugural director of the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center, where he worked with opera legend Marilyn Horne to significantly expand the holdings of the collection. He designed and curated permanent exhibits dedicated to famed conductor Henry Lewis and the vast contributions of African Americans to music around the world. In 2018, he established a permanent endowment to secure the future of the museum and its programming. Mr. Hileman is currently the Director of Operations and Visitor Engagement for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy where oversees the operations and programming for many of Pittsburgh’s premiere parks. |
